Football Stadium Vs Multipurpose Sports Arena

While sitting in the stands at Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru watching AFC match, I wondered why I was not able to enjoy it as I used to do when I watch matches at Dr Ambedkar Stadium, Delhi or Cooperage, Mumbai. The same feeling was there while watching ISL matches at Nehru Stadium, Delhi. There was one question in my mind, whether it makes a difference in experience while watching a match in a football stadium and a multipurpose sports stadium. It took some time to convince myself that you relate to the match much more when watching in a football stadium. Faces of the players are more clear and visible. Overall the action on field is just in front of you, hardly a few meters away. In a multipurpose sports arena, the distance is comparatively larger to identify players especially for fans who don’t recognise players by face. Also the action on field is too far to feel the heat and excitement.
I hardly see any EPL matches in a multipurpose sports arena (It is a different aspect that EPL clubs can afford their own stadiums. Here the concern is of spectator experience). Many of our ISL and I – League matches are played in a multipurpose sports stadiums. I am not sure how much it adversely affects the experience of spectators in particular or the game is general. But the issue might seem as an appropriate topic for interesting debate or surveys.

Till then enjoy the beautiful game!!!

#DrugsFreeIndia #TroubleFreeIndia

#MannKiBaat #Solution
#Make sports compulsory for all children.
#Benefits:
  • As per the present scenario, parents are busy in the process of securing better livelihood and focus less on their children’s daily lifestyle. Sports will ensure that children are under the watchful eyes of sports teacher and team mates. If the children deviate towards things like drugs and smoking, the same can be checked at the start only. Also children involved in sports are less likely to indulge in it as they realise the negative effects on the performance.
  • Sports develop social skills. “Tolerance towards other individual and religion. No communal tension.”
  •   Sports help in moral development and identity formation.”Corruption free India.”
  • Sports help to improve fitness level and health condition. “Less expenditure on medical bills and more on development of the children.”
  • Children busy with sports and studies. “An empty mind is a devil’s workshop.”
  • Sports develop team work, leadership skills and discipline. Sports help in personality development leading to high self esteem and confidence.
  •  Large pool of players available for various sports and possibility of more Olympics medals.
#Requirements:

  •  Adopt sports as a foundation and an ingredient of civilization.
  •  Make sports compulsory subject from 1st to 12th class and in universities as well.
  • Responsible and qualified sports teachers and coaches. Sports teacher; coach, mentor, disciplinarian.
  • Concentrated effort from parents and encourage children to pursue sports.
  • Strong will from policy makers.

The Change Maker – OSCAR Foundation.. Education Through Football

Let's Football..

Today I had the privilege of interacting with a group of Young Leaders of OSCAR Foundation. As a Good Samaritan I passed on the learning of Leadership discovered while playing football, working in the sports management industry and my tenure as an officer in the Indian Army.

The Organisation for Social Change, Awareness and Responsibility (OSCAR) is a not for profit organization working towards the vision of enabling young people to become role models using the medium of football. The organisation encourages children from humble background to be a responsible citizen with the support of Young Leaders and to take on education while imparting football coaching at the same time.

Young Leaders are the product of the same program and at present they coach the next generation, inspiring them through their own example.

Thank you OSCAR.

Pl Do Not Humiliate Indian Sports Person..Even if they are not able to reach QF at Asian Games

An Easy way out to avoid (temporarily) humiliation at the hands of great sporting nations is to bar teams or individual who do not hold the chance of getting through the QF stage at Incheon Asian Games. Kudos to this policy drafted by the custodian of Indian sports just prior to start of the games. Thank you so much for boosting the morale of the Indian squad.

What has been done by the so called custodian for the past so many years that we don’t have to think like a coward? We are aware that many grass root programmes have been initiated. But what is the use? Still, we lag behind in many disciplines. Why didn’t we question ourselves well in time that even after initiating grass root level programs, we stand nowhere in the medal tally. Why didn’t we analysed our programs/development schemes and implemented corrective actions?

Many associations/federations have taken the charge now and have become active in the process of producing world class products after ten years or so. Indian Men’s football team lost to UAE 5-0. Yes, such score lines are humiliating but consider the efforts of the federation not only towards preparations for the games but also towards grass root development programs kick started by them. As Rome was not built in a day, quality sports persons are not made in a day. We just have to wait for some more years to reap the benefits of the efforts. But if policies like barring the not so strong teams crops up, then it may lead to policy paralysis of such federations.

Just to hide your own inefficiency, do not blame the sports persons and coaches. They are today what they are with all those skills provided by the custodian’s development schemes and programs. It may have been better if the program was of that nature. After the games please do not blame our flag bearers and also flush the attitude of “see I told you.” Please go back to your office, analyse your programs both for the coaches & sports persons, see if there is something wrong (yes it is, that’s why we are at such a stage), take corrective action and stop recommending mindless policies. In short, do some soul searching.

Considering the present status, this video posted by India for Sports on Facebook holds true for us.
